Precautions 'essential' for worksites with vehicles

Precautions 'essential' for worksites with vehicles Companies have been reminded by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) of the need to ensure that proper safety precautions are taken on sites which involve pedestrians working in proximity to vehicles.

The regulatory body warned businesses of the need to make sure that traffic routes are organised, as well as checking that surfaces are properly maintained to ensure safe vehicle performance.

HSE's warning comes after a company was fined following an on-site collision between two workplace vehicles, causing injuries to an employee.

Scott Wynne, an HSE inspector, said: "All companies must assess the risks when pedestrians and vehicles, such as forklift trucks, work in close proximity and take appropriate precautions which are well documented in HSE guidance."

One such precaution is the use of on-site safety signs to alert both drivers and pedestrians to the presence of a traffic route, as well as hi vis clothing to make workers more visible to those operating vehicles.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19237096-ADNFCR
