RNLI: Correct safety equipment important It is important that people make sure they always have the correct safety equipment to hand when needed, an expert has said.

Paul Nicholson, spokesman for the Sunderland branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), told the city's Echo that this point was highlighted by a recent incident in which two fishermen had to be rescued by his service.

"The RNLI recommends that all vessels are equipped with all of the correct safety equipment - including a suitable anchor and marine radio," he said.

Numerous warning relating to safety equipment on boats have been issued in recent months as sailors continue to take to the water without having adequate precautions in place.

Wearing correct footgear on boats to avoid slips can be important, as can clothing which protects against the weather, according to the Encyclopaedia of Occupational Health and Safety by Jeanne Mager Stellman.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18443590-ADNFCR
