Reducing stress can cut workplace accidents, HSE says Reducing stress can lead to a reduction in workplace accidents, it has been claimed.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), there has been a significant increase in the number of workers who are suffering from work-related stress.

The HSE said that its stress management standards provide employers and employees with practical guidance in order to identify stress in the workplace before an accident occurs.

Health spokeswoman Judith Hackitt said: "We need to make a conscious effort to tackle workplace stress as we have lost nearly 14 million working days due to stress last year.

"It cannot be eliminated, but must be managed with our workforces' wellbeing in mind."

The Cheshire and Wirral NHS trust has backed the HSE policies to reduce stress by integrating the standards into its own management practices.

While the HSE is not able to offer medical advice to individuals, it urges those under "excess pressure" or stress at work to seek the advice of their doctor.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18393192-ADNFCR
