Research shows rise in boardroom engagement with health and safety A new survey has suggested that board engagement in the "management" of health and safety risks has increased in the last three years.

The research by the EEF, the manufacturer's organisation, found that senior management involvement in health and safety has increased by more than a third since 2006.

Further to this, the survey revealed that 81 per cent of boards discuss health and safety as a regular item, compared with 58 per cent four years ago.

Steve Pointer, head of health and safety at the EEF, believes that the survey results confirm that there has been a "sea change" in the attitudes of directors towards health and safety issues.

He added: "Active leadership is now very definitely the norm, not the exception."

Meanwhile, the Health and Safety Executive recently launched a campaign designed to reduce the number of trips and falls in the workplace.

It was revealed that the financial cost of people slipping or falling at work is £800m a year.

As a consequence, employees are encouraged to use workwear that is appropriate to the environment where they are employed.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19593171-ADNFCR
