RoSPA safety winners announced A number of businesses across the UK have been honoured at this year's RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) awards, with the premier prize being awarded to Trant Construction.

In total, a record 1,500 people were recognised for their contribution to improving health and safety levels across Britain.

According to RoSPA, Trant Construction was praised by the panel for its "practical approach to training and briefing; disciplined use of point-of-work risk assessments; the involvement of employees in reporting and solving problems; eagerness to learn from accidents and incidents; creative approaches to occupational health and well-being; and [for] the induction, training and supervision of migrant workers."

GE Healthcare was the recipient of RoSPA's training trophy, with other big winners including the Royal Mail group and the Grove Centre.

This year's event, which was sponsored by NEBOSH, took place at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel and was attended by around 3,000 people.

In other news, RoSPA was the recipient of an award itself this week, when it scooped the 2008 Fleet World Honours Safety Award.
