Rospa calls for an end to 'HSE-centric system'

Rospa calls for an end to 'HSE-centric system' Health and safety professionals should be placed at the heart of efforts to cut down the number of work-related accidents in the UK, it has been suggested.

According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa), businesses and people in the workplace need to be key allies and equals in the health and safety system, currently regulated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

"The 'HSE-centric' view of the health and safety system which has been prevalent in the past must now be abandoned for good," Rospa stated.

Amid ongoing questions about the level of government funding in place to support the HSE, Rospa claimed the law-enforcement body cannot deliver "sustainable improvement" acting alone.

Professionals in the workplace should be allies, rather than auxiliaries, in efforts to improve risk management activities in the workplace, it added.

Many firms safeguard their staff by purchasing appropriate personal protective equipment such as workwear and safety signs.

However, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health also suggested this week that the HSE should go further in its strategy and enforce strict directors' duties across the UK's workplaces.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19068595-ADNFCR
