Safety campaigners outraged crane collapse, it is reported A crane jib that collapsed in Forest Hill, south London, knocking over several concrete pillars and crushing a people carrier has been the focus of a campaign by the Battersea Crane Disaster Action Group.

Although the incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities, the action group has gone to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to "express outrage".

The group was set up after two men died in 2006 following a crane accident and have been lobbying the HSE for more resources to tackle dangerous building practices.

Liliana Alexa, secretary of the action group, building.co.uk: "We really do not understand how these incidents can keep on occurring.

"The crane industry claim to be doing all they can and the HSE tell us they are making the issue a priority but still cranes keep coming down."

The Strategic Forum Health and Safety Group has said the construction industry should ensure that extra training is provided to all those in control of tower crane erection, operation and dismantling.
