Safety official warns businesses of the dangers of falls from height A health and safety official has urged firms to ensure that suitable precautions are taken to prevent injuries or deaths as a result of falls from height.

Stephen Walker, an environmental health and trading standards manager, reiterated to businesses that they are the ones responsible for the safety of people on their premises, reports the Press Association.

Mr Walker commented: "All businesses must consider the dangers of falls from height and the risks associated with persons … using their premises and put in place adequate control measures."

He noted that this includes members of the public such as the elderly or children, not simply employees of the owner of the site.

Companies can minimise the potential hazards by installing barriers near dangerous areas and putting safety signs in place where there may still be a risk.

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 states that "dutyholders" should use work equipment to prevent falls when labourers are required to work at height.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18753247-ADNFCR
