School fundraiser for paralysed builder A school has decided to hold a fundraiser for a charity that helped a builder who was paralysed when he fell off a roof he was working on.

The man was injured when he was knocked off a roof after he was hit by a piece of wood that was blown by a gust of wind, reports the Hunts Post.

Pupils at Sawtry Community College held the event in aid of the Lighthouse Club, which aids injured construction workers, because the man's stepson attends the school.

The wife of the injured man commented: "It's amazing the things the pupils are doing to help - they have all put so much energy and enthusiasm into it."

It was recently reported by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that 45 workers died after a fall from height in the last year.

To combat this the HSE recommends ensuring that correct personal protective equipment is used, while it may also be advisable to erect safety signs where dangerous work is being undertaken.
