Scottish firms invited to attend driver seminars Plans to hold a series of occupational driver safety seminars in Dumfries have been welcomed by Scotland's minister for transport, infrastructure and climate change.

Stewart Stevenson MSP, said businesses had a "major role" to play in improving workplace safety levels, adding that at-work drivers should be offered the same protection as other employees.

The seminars, which take place on Thursday June 5th, Friday June 6th and Thursday June 12th, have been organised by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), in conjunction with the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives.

Areas likely to be covered at the event include the laws governing at-work drivers, the benefits of vehicle monitoring systems and the development of company standards.

Willie Willis, RoSPA's road safety manager for Scotland, commented: "It is an issue that affects not only those firms employing professional drivers, but any organisation with staff who use the road for work purposes, such as sales reps, employees who travel between sites or managers who have drive to meetings."

According to RoSPA statistics, around 100 occupational drivers die annually on Scotland's roads.
