Sensible safety needed for Christmas decorations, experts say

Sensible safety needed for Christmas decorations, experts say People putting up Christmas decorations at work should be sensible about safety, but they don't need to go overboard, a government body has said.

Saying "bah humbug!" to businesses who ban employees from putting up decorations, the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) said that as long as people are sensible, there is no reason why they cannot do it themselves.

The HSE appears to think that a safe set of step ladders is sufficient to make sure that workers are safe when making their offices festive.

"Most organisations, including HSE and local councils, manage to put up their decorations - celebrating the spirit of Christmas without a fuss," the body said.

It added: "They just sensibly provide their staff with suitable step ladders."

The HSE went further, calling the idea that employees are banned from putting up decorations themselves a "myth".

On the agencies website, in the section on step ladder safety, it is advised that if a worker does not think their ladder to be sufficient that they speak to their supervisor.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18355798-ADNFCR
