Steeplejack firm fined after worker falls A Stoke-on-Trent steeplejack firm has been handed an £8,000 fine after one of its workers fell from scaffolding, causing injuries that left him in plaster for four months.

The man was working at a site in Tunstall when he fell one-and-a-half metres to the ground.

A subsequent Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found that the necessary safety precautions had not been taken.

The company pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

In addition to the fine, it was also ordered to pay £5,000 costs.

HSE inspector Guy Dale observed: "Working at height is the most common cause of workplace injuries and this incident shows the very real dangers, no matter what the distance to the ground."

With the right equipment and a proper risk assessment, however, this incident could have been prevented, Mr Dale said.

To reduce the risk of injury, Britons are advised to use appropriate workwear, which may include the use of safety boots.ADNFCR-1200-ID-800028796-ADNFCR
