Student praised by IOSH An undergraduate student hoping to pursue a career in work safety has been praised by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) for her voluntary contribution to its branch executive committee.

Yvonne Liverton, who is currently studying at Nottingham Trent University, joined the IOSH as part of a year-long work placement programme with the Manchester-based petrochemicals company Basell Polyolefins.

While working with the committee, Ms Liverton had the opportunity to gain experience and advice from the network of more than 2,500 health and safety professionals throughout the north west of England who work with the IOSH.

In return for the opportunity, Ms Liverton agreed to give a presentation on her time with the group during its annual general meeting.

She said: "I found out about health and safety from my parents as they both work in laboratories. I thought it sounded like an interesting career and it gave me an opportunity to make a difference."

The IOSH is Europe's leading independent body for health and safety professionals.
