Sunderland firms improve health and safety record

Sunderland firms improve health and safety record Sunderland firms have clearly being paying more attention to the need for the correct safety workwear, equipment and training to be provided after a government body found a big improvement in standards.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), 15 improvement notices and just one prohibition notice were served during recent inspections at more than 65 businesses in the city's industrial estates.

The improvement documents demand additional safeguards be added within a specific timeframe, while the prohibition was applied to one firm which had unguarded machinery that was considered dangerous.

It meant that the company had to cease operations until the appropriate action was undertaken to remedy the situation.

Despite the improvement, HSE inspector Jonathan Wills said that there is no room for complacency.

"It's important to stress though that more needs to be done, proved by the improvement notices issued," he explained.

Meanwhile, the HSE's Make the Promise: Come Home Safe campaign, which focuses on improving standards in agriculture, has received a marketing award.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19509497-ADNFCR
