Surrey businessman found guilty of ignoring safety notices A Surrey-based businessman has been prosecuted for ignoring notices to stop dangerous work at his premises on an industrial estate.

The 58-year-old pleaded guilty to health and safety breaches at Guildford Crown Court.

Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that skips and general waste were stored in a way that put workers at risk from falling objects.

Despite issuing an improvement notice, the HSE returned to the site only to find that no improvements had been made.

The businessman was found guilty of contravening the Improvement and Prohibition Notices issued upon him.

He was sentenced to serve 240 hours of community service.

"HSE will hold employers to account if they do not comply with these notices," commented HSE inspector Kari Sprostranova.

Official figures show the construction industry to be one of the most dangerous in which to work.

Britons employed within the sector are therefore advised to don appropriate workwear.ADNFCR-1200-ID-800299471-ADNFCR
