Tips to avoid injury in the workplace

Tips to avoid injury in the workplace Business bosses have been given some useful advice on preventing health and safety incidents at work by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

RoSPA's occupational safety adviser Roger Bibbings commented: "Slips, trips and falls account for around 40 per cent of all major injuries at work, and 20 per cent of over-three-day injuries. Early prevention of such accidents is key."

He noted: "Some simple measures to prevent slips, trips and falls at work are: good lighting; attention to sudden changes in level; prevention of contamination of smooth floor surfaces, such as using matting at entrances for people to wipe their feet [and] quick action to mop up spills."

Mr Bibbings pointed out that such measures are cheap and easy to implement in comparison to the "pain and cost" of falls and other accidents that can lead to fractures, breakages and more serious injuries.

Bosses could invest in appropriate workwear to stop their employees from getting hurt at work.
