Transport in the workplace 'checked' by HSE

Transport in the workplace 'checked' by HSE The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has conducted a series of inspections of workplace transport in over 100 businesses.

Its safety blitz took place at Alconbury Airfield and was performed alongside Huntingdonshire district council, Vehicle and Operator Services Agency officials and the police.

The inspection was conducted to ensure that the firms were in compliance with regulations and, according to HSE inspector Paul Hoskins, the majority of firms were examined.

Mr Hoskins stated: "We were pleased to note that the majority of companies at Alconbury appear to be taking this very real risk seriously."

Local councillor Mrs Deborah Reynolds said that she was pleased to see the regulatory bodies working together to improve safety.

The HSE recently warned companies to ensure that pedestrians are not in danger from moving vehicles in the workplace.

This can be achieved in part by installing safety signs where machinery needs to reverse and providing staff with hi vis clothing.
