US government makes PPE pledge to combat bird flu The US government has reaffirmed the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the fight against avian flu by mentioning it as part of a pledge to help combat the virus in East Asia and the Pacific.

In a statement discussing the $434 million currently being invested in the fight against the virus - which is currently affecting some farms in the UK - the US government described how the money was being spent.

"The US agency for international development deployed non-pharmaceutical commodities - including PPE - and laboratory investigation and decontamination kits," it said.

The state highlighted three main areas for controlling bird flu - communication and preparation, detection and surveillance and containment and response.

PPE, including respirators, is most useful for the containment process.

The latest bird flu outbreak was discovered in Suffolk, where it killed 2,600 turkeys, according to the BBC.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18377479-ADNFCR
