University professor receives safety award A professor of law from the University of Warwick, has been presented with an award by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), in recognition of his contribution to occupational health and safety.

Professor Frank Wright, who "has made a substantial contribution to teaching, research and public policy in the field of work-related health, safety and environmental law", was presented with RoSPA's Distinguished Service Award, at a ceremony in Birmingham.

RoSPA chief executive Tom Mullarkey commented; "Professor Wright's quiet but powerful influence has done much to help ensure the continuing evolution of a sound structure of health and safety law, fit for the 21st century."

He added that the Distinguished Service Award was reserved only for those who had made a significant and positive contribution to improving health and safety in the UK.

In other news, RoSPA last week honoured a number of businesses for their efforts in improving workplace safety, with Trant Construction taking home RoSPA's highest accolade - the Sir George Earle Trophy.
