University wins major workplace health and safety award Investing in safety signs has helped a Leeds Metropolitan University land a major national award.

The northern England institution has been named as the latest winner of the Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) on the back of its efforts to make its campus safer for both staff and students.

In addition to introducing a 'wellbeing' website for its students and workers in a bid to reduce absence through illness, the university has also worked to cut down on the number of accidents happening on its premises, for example through the introduction of easy-to-understand safety signs.

Announcing the news, RoSPA award manager David Rawlins suggested that other organisations, both within the education sector and outside of it, would do well to follow the lead of Leeds Met.

"As well as there being clear ethical reasons and legal requirements for good health and safety management, there is also a strong business case," he said.

At the same time, RoSPA is also named the West Nottinghamshire College as a winner of its Silver Occupational Health and Safety Award.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19724057-ADNFCR
