Vandals disrupt construction work on road safety scheme site Construction work of a new road safety scheme on the M62 is being hampered by vandals, Batley & Birstall News reports.

Balfour Beatty, the construction firm, has already lodged official complaints to the local police about damage caused to fibre optic cables on the site of the £27.9 million scheme.

The cables are required for CCTV to observe traffic during work between Brighouse and Tingley.

According to a police spokesperson, fibre optic cables have been cut and some main cables have been stolen.

The spokesperson told the website: "Without CCTV they are unable to see potential hazards to road users and workers, especially vehicles which may break down through the roadworks.

"The company is concerned a potentially serious incident may take place."

Meanwhile, the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations (1992) states that construction workers should use safety boots and safety helmets to protect themselves against injury on a building site.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19597223-ADNFCR
