Vocational rehabilitation standards introduced

Vocational rehabilitation standards introduced A new set of standards to protect the quality of care provided by those who need vocational rehabilitation have been introduced by the UK Rehabilitation Council (UKRC).

Catherine McLoughlin, chair of the UKRC, praised the majority of private care providers, but said there were a minority that were not delivering, reports Safety and Health Practitioner magazine.

"Our standards will strengthen the hand of customers and bona-fide care-providers," she commented.

This could help those who have been injured in workplaces where personal protective equipment, such as safety boots and appropriate workwear was not provided and accidents occurred.

Lord McKenzie, the safety minister, applauded the guidelines, saying they would be useful and would ensure that work was proportionate, ethical and fairly priced.

This comes after more than a third of manufacturers reported in a survey conducted by manufacturers organisation EEF that there has been a rise in the number of employees taking days off as a result of long-term sickness between 2007 and 2008. ADNFCR-1200-ID-19179689-ADNFCR
