Work-based accidents to be reported online

Work-based accidents to be reported online From September, the reporting of minor work-related incidents and injuries will be carried out predominantly on the internet in order to simplify the process.

A number of forms will be available on the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website, which already receives 26 million hits annually and features a wealth of information on certain enquiries, such as first aid and the responsibilities of new businesses.

Director of strategy with the HSE Trevor Carlile noted that over half of reportable injuries are brought to the body via its website and the number is increasing over time.

"Taking advantage of the growing use of the internet allows [the] HSE to be more efficient in the way it works," he remarked.

This comes after the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents called for proper investigation and recording of accidents in the workplace so lessons can be learned.

Firms could find the number of injuries in their workplaces fall if they invest in appropriate workwear.
