Worker nearly blinded in accident

Worker nearly blinded in accident A drainage engineer who was nearly blinded in a workplace accident has settled out of court with his employer for undisclosed damages to compensate for his injuries.

The man was hit in the face by a hose as he was carrying out maintenance, the News reports. The blow caused a wound just below his right eye that required surgery.

Lawyers decided that his employer was accountable for the accident because it had failed to provide him with personal protection equipment that would have prevented the accident becoming a life-changing incident.

The worker is still suffering from blurred vision and he hopes that employers will learn from his experience and ensure that they provide their employees with the necessary workwear for the role.

"I hope employers sit up and listen to my story and do everything they can to keep their workers safe so no-one else has to suffer," he told the News.

His lawyer reiterated that message.

"It's important employers take note of this case and do all they can to protect their workers by providing basic health and safety equipment," the paper reports.
