Workers removing asbestos 'should be clean shaven' Workers involved in the removal of asbestos should be clean-shaven to ensure that a full seal on the face can be achieved with a safety mask, it has been claimed.

A spokesman for Hertel Services stated that it is vital from a health and safety point of view to ensure that workers are not put at unnecessary exposure to asbestos, the Whitehaven News reports.

He said: "When working with asbestos or in an environment where asbestos may be found, it is essential that workers are clean shaven to ensure safety masks seal on the face."

HSE guidelines for those working with the toxic substance advise that suitable protective equipment is used and worn properly - and that disposable overalls and masks are not reused.

In addition to this, it may be prudent to erect safety signs to ensure that anyone nearby will be aware that dangerous work is being undertaken.
