Workers warned over safety after site death

Workers warned over safety after site death A major trade union has urged firms and workers to be extra vigilant with regards to health and safety regulations, as well as the use of personal protective equipment, following the death of a steelworker in Teeside.

On April 12th, site worker Kristian Norris was killed at a steel plant after performing a maintenance task on site.

Commenting on the incident, the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (Ucatt) has warned all workers throughout the industry - as well as companies - to make sure that they adhere to all health and safety regulations at all times during the work day.

Ucatt's northern region secretary John Scott said: "Mr Norris' death once again emphasised that you can never have too high a level of health and safety at work.

"No matter how good the companies believe health and safety levels are, there can always be improvements."

Ucatt works with the Health and Safety Executive on measures of safety within the construction and building sectors.
