Workplace safety to be examined at conference A new conference organised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) will examine workplace transport accidents, a major cause of workplace deaths in Britain.

Scheduled to take place on May 14th 2008 in the Concourse Suite at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, the Managing Workplace Transport Risks Conference: A Matter of Life or Death will feature briefings on current accident and enforcement trends and effective solutions to safety issues.

RoSPA claims that effective management of road transport risk is vital, as it includes "everything from lorries and cars moving around a site to the use of diggers and fork-lift trucks".

Workplace transport accidents were responsible for 66 deaths last year and the conference is intended to promote the HSE’s new Route Map, which brings together details of legislation, guidance and good practice relevant to managing workplace transport risks.

An estimated 241 workers are believed to have been fatally injured during 2006-07, corresponding to a fatal injury rate of 0.80 per 100,000 workers. The highest rates of fatal workplace injuries in the UK are in the agriculture and construction sectors.ADNFCR-1200-ID-18458042-ADNFCR
