Zap initiative cuts electrical accidents An initiative set up by the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) has cut the number of accident occurrences that need to be reported by 50 per cent, according to a source.

The Zero Accident Potential (Zap) scheme was set up by voluntarily by electrical contractors to reduce the number of injuries in the sector, reports CNPlus.co.uk.

Since it was formed, it is thought that the number of major injuries in the industry has fallen by 60 per cent.

Paul Reeve, the ECA's health, safety and environmental manager, noted that electrical work can be particularly dangerous but that getting full backing for Zap was not an easy achievement.

Firms looking to improve the preventative measures taken against accidents may wish to look at the Health and Safety Executive's website on which there are guidelines on safe practice.

According to the website, employers should consider erecting safety signs to advise workers when to wear personal protective equipment such as safety gloves.
