h Cost-effective solutions are available to employers to help curb the number of accidents caused by workers falling from vehicles, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has said.

The warning comes after more than 1,600 workers were injured and four were killed after falling from a vehicle in the workplace.

Marcia Davies, director of Injuries reduction, believes better-designed equipment, such as vehicles which can be operated using ground-based controls, could help reduce risk in the workplace.

Furthermore, employers can plan and manage work using vehicles so staff are not placed at height where unnecessary, she suggested.

"There are simple cost effective solutions that businesses can take to manage and drastically reduce the risk of falling from vehicles," Ms Davies added.

Employers could also consider using safety signs to keep staff away from moving vehicles in the workplace.

In addition, HSE inspector Kevin Jones recently urged employees to ensure goods are securely strapped to vehicles, adding that they should not rely on friction.ADNFCR-1200-ID-19004963-ADNFCR
