Safety equipment: Harnesses, Fall Arrest Blocks and Belts

Safety equipment

Some of the worst industrial injuries are caused by falls. To avoid the risk, the right safety equipment properly applied, is essential for jobs both above and below ground.

Safe working high above ground

The Arco Arrester range of Safety Harnesses and Restraint Belts has been designed to be as comfortable, safe and as practical as possible for the wearers, with ease of donning particularly in mind. The new Harmonised European Standards categorise systems in several groups:

  • Where the danger of a fall exists in the work area, full body harnesses, approved to EN361 should be worn.
  • Fall arrest blocks are approved to EN360
  • Restraint belts and work position belts are approved to EN358

Below ground: for work and rescue

Working below ground in confined spaces is potentially a serious hazardous exercise to undertake. Reference should be made to the Confined Space Regulations 1997. The publication contains an approved Code of Practice and guidance on the duties in the Confined Space Regulations 1997, which are applicable across all industry sectors. When entry in a confined space is necessary, then an action plan for safe working is required. The action plan should include a Risk Assessment, Permit to Work System, Communication, Testing and Monitoring of the Atmosphere and Emergency Procedures.
