Are compliant with the smoking ban?

Safety equipment

Smoking is banned in all 'enclosed' public places.  The ban applies to all offices, factories, shops, pubs, bars, restaurants, membership clubs, public transport and work vehicles (including company cars) that are used by more than one person. Legislation states that organisations affected by the ban are required to display "No Smoking" signage within buildings to ensure that employee's, visitors and the public are aware of no smoking areas.

The law requires and recommends the following minimum action:-

  • Develop and implement a smoke-free policy with staff under agreed procedures.

  • Display the International "No Smoking" symbol at least 85mm in diameter.

  • Display the required "No Smoking" signs at least 230mm x 160mm in size.

  • It is up to the manager or person in control to decide on the number of signs required.

  • The signs must display the holder of a particular post to whom complaints may be directed to by anyone who observes someone smoking on their premises or in their vehicles.

  • If you would like to provide outdoor smoking areas for your staff, customers or visitors, smoking shelters are available that comply with the new law.

It is recommended that legal and local planning advice be taken on any such outdoor smoking areas and external stubbing-out bins are also put in place.

Arco provide a range of Mandatory and Prohibition Signs, Safety Posters, External Corrosion Resistant Wall Mounted Ashtrays, newly designed Smoking Shelters that comply with the laws and a selection of Stubbing-out Bins all available to order.
