Do You Know If Your Installation is Safe for Working at Heights?

Working at heights can be defined as work taking place where, if precautions were not taken, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury: For example, work on roofs, wind turbines, pylon poles, scaffolding, aerial work platforms, roof tops, ladders, building sites, logistical centres or modes of transport... However, you must also include in this definition work carried out at depth or in confined spaces: drains, tunnels, mines, wells, digging work, etc.

Do You Know The Consequences of Falls From Height?

Risk assessment to guarantee workers' safety is vital, especially in work that involves fall risks from different heights. The law obliges all companies to comply with very strict legal requirements in terms of fall protection.

Choosing the right equipment is crucial in order to protect worker safety, especially when working at heights. A typical personal fall arrest system (PFAS) includes three components, usually described as the ABCs of fall protection:

The (A) anchorage/anchorage connector, (B) body support and (C) connecting device - when used together form a complete system for maximum worker protection.

Maximum Worker Protection

A - Anchorage

Anchors are used to fasten or connect the fall protection equipment to a particular structure. Anchorage systems may include: anchorage points, anchorage devices and fixed or structural elements.

B - Body Support / Harnesses

The harness provides a connection point on the worker for the personal fall protection system. In the event of a fall, the harness distributes fall forces over the upper thighs, pelvis, chest and shoulders.

C - Connectors

Products such as shock absorbing lanyards or self-retracting lifelines with openings to connect a worker's harness to the anchorage.
