Arco Recognised For Long-Standing Business Success -
Wins JP Morgan Honour

Arco, the fourth generation family-owned business and the UK's leading distributor of workwear and workplace safety products has been awarded the highly prestigious Family Business Honour by JP Morgan's Private Bank and the Institute of Family Business (IFB).

Nomination for this Award came at the end of a rigorous and detailed selection process involving interviews and a written submission assessed by the Honours Team, made up of business leaders from some of the UKs most successful family businesses.  Chosen for its excellence across a range of categories, including business success, social responsibility and family governance, Arco was commended for its relentless pursuit of innovation and for a demonstrable commitment to its employees and the community at large.

Thomas Martin, Joint Managing Director at Arco said: "It is a real honour to receive such a well recognised and prestigious Award.  We know we are a great business and the judges at J P Morgan and the IFB clearly agree.  Family businesses make an often understated contribution to the economic and social fabric of the UK.  Well run family firms can take responsible, long-term business decisions and those, like Arco, that are determined to remain competitive are already planning for how their organisations will look once the current economic recession is over. "

This latest award for Arco confirms its commitment to its core principles and the judging panel recognised that these values Respect for People, Hard work and Enterprise and Excellence in Reputation are an intrinsic part of Arco's daily life.  In addition, Arco was able to demonstrate its dedication to corporate social responsibility through its support of local business communities and charitable organisations as a member of the BITC Percent Club, donating 1% of pre-tax profits to charity.  It is also a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative, ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of workers throughout its supply chain.

First established in 1884, Arco has progressed throughout its 125 year history to achieve a turnover in excess of £200 million with over 100,000 customers and a 39 strong branch network across the UK.

Kate Murphy, Head of Family Business at JP Morgan's Private Bank said: "Family businesses make a tremendous contribution to the economic and social fabric of the UK business community. Our winners are testament to the resilience of family firms in a recessionary climate and inspirational to others."
